A detailed positional survey and subsequent assessment of the high energy piping of a unit at a power station was carried out. Hangers had been observed to have bottomed out and metallurgical analysis showed a possibility of wear, possibly due to creep. The positional survey was completed by a contractor under instruction from K.J. Beer. The resulting positions were used to construct a detailed piping model in Caesar II. A similar model of the original piping design was also developed. Both models were assessed against ASME B31.1 and fatigue and creep hot spots were determined.
Specifically, the analysis included:
| Caesar II model of Hot Reheat Line | Close up sections of Caesar II model of Hot Reheat Line | Interpolation of design strengths for creep analysis of high temperature lines |
Code stress plots of Hot Reheat Line (Caesar II) |
