Tank defect assessment and repair procedure for non compliant defects

K.J. Beer was approached to determine the compliance of thinning and other defects in a tank in accordance with API 653. Through analytical calculation and FEA, defects were either shown to be compliant or requiring repair. Where repair was required, detailed repair procedures were developed in accordance with API 653.

In particular, the floor was found to require major repair. This in turn required the design of jacking supports to allow lifting of the tank to remove the old floor plate and place the new floor plate.

Deliverables included:

  1. Integrity assessment calculations to API 653.
  2. Jacking design for bottom plate removal (FEA).
  3. Detailed cutting and weld procedures in adherence with API 653.
